Jews around the world are seeking light from the horrors of the war in Israel. While we wait for the 100 hostages to come home, we are grieving over soldiers being killed almost daily. We are also waiting for the diplomats and politicians to deliver a lasting cease fire that we can trust so there won’t be a need to remain on high alert. Quite frankly, we are hoping for a miracle this Chanukah, but like the Maccabees, we must be prepared to fight our enemies.
A gift in any amount will go a long way towards lifting the morale of our brave IDF soldiers. Chanukah is typically one of the most joyous celebrations with family gatherings, lighting the menorah each night and enjoying traditional comfort foods like potato latkes (potato pancakes) and sufganiyot (jelly donuts). In addition to the 100 hostages, there are many soldiers and civilians who are unable to celebrate with their families. Not every household will be filled with the laughter and joy it experienced in past years. Fortunately, Israel’s soldiers are working overtime in the winter conditions to stop those seeking to do us harm and searching for the hostages. As a father of two soldiers, I can assure you that anything from a warm meal to the items that will keep them warm on duty, will be greatly appreciated by Israel’s sons and daughters. Whether the blessing of hostages returning or a meaningful peace arrives in time for Chanukah is unknown, but while we still have soldiers serving on the frontlines, we need them to know that they are what stands between the light and darkness, and their sacrifices are appreciated. Show your appreciation for Israel’s soldiers on the 8 days of Chanukah! I pray this is the last time I will write to you about the war. Please join me in this prayer, and until our Lord answers it, prayerfully do your part to help show love and blessings to the brave men and women of the IDF. Your faithful servant, Jonathan Feldstein
