The new evidence gathered during the investigation by the House Administration Subcommittee on Oversight of Rep. Barry Loudermilk into Capitol security on January 6, as well as the breach, shows the Select Committee led by Democrats missed some of most important evidence regarding security failures and mistakes that led to those events.

After years of investigation, and despite multiple reports, the Select Committee’s official report on January 6, 2006 missed several important developments. These are now at the forefront of the debate about what the U.S. Government can learn from the events that occurred the day when the U.S. Capitol building was breached.

The much-publicized Final Report of the Democrat led January 6 Select Committee, for example, focused on the claims of former President Donald Trump of voter fraud, as well as the actions taken by his officials in the lead up to, throughout, and following January 6, but failed to address security lapses.

The lapses included how the then Vice-President-elect Kamala was transported within yards from a suspected pipe-bomb and how Nancy Pelosi’s Sergeant-at Arms received warnings of a possible Capitol breach the evening before the riot on Jan. 6.

New Evidence

HBO documentary footage taken by the daughter of Nancy Pelosi, then Speaker of the House at the time, showing her expressing regret for the failure.

Top Pelosi security aides–especially the House Sergeant-at-Arms–received security briefings before Jan. 6 that suggested a breach of the Capitol was possible;

The Trump Pentagon offered National Guard Support for Days Before the Jan. 6 Riot but was rebuked.

Footage of protestors entering the Capitol through an unlocked and unsecured door;

The Government Accountability Office report highlighted intelligence failures which led to Capitol breaches;

The U.S. Secret Service placed then Vice President-elect Harris just yards away from a suspected pipe-bomb.

Pelosi accepts responsibility for the Jan. 6 security breach.

Loudermilk released the footage in June. It shows Speaker Pelosi, her chief of staff, and their SUV as they are whisked away from the Capitol Complex, speeding along an underground parking garage as protestors break into the building.

Pelosi told her chief of staff Terri Mccullough, “We have responsibility,” at the start of the video. Loudermilk uploaded the videotape to social media and other platforms. It shows that Pelosi, then Speaker, at least seems to acknowledge that Democratic leadership in the Capitol may have some responsibility for security failures.

Pelosi says in the video that was not mentioned or included in the Select Committee report, “We should have been held accountable for what happened there.” Pelosi said “This is absurd” in the video.

Alexandra Pelosi, daughter of Pelosi, recorded the footage. Alexandra was also involved in HBO’s documentary on the riots that took place on Jan. 6. The video was only aired in full by the Republicans of the House Administration Oversight Subcommittee after they obtained it from the television network.

HBO has not responded to Just the News’ request for comment on the documentary footage that was never used.

Pelosi’s Sergeant at Arms received security briefings before the Jan. 6th event

Just the News reported this week that Nancy Pelosi’s top House security advisers received stern warnings by police the night prior to the Jan. 6, riots, that protesters would try to breach the U.S. Capitol via its tunnel system and harass or block legislators from voting to certify Joe Biden as the presidential election winner.

Just the News obtained documents that confirm Pelosi’s team was a major player in the disastrous security planning on that fateful day.

Just the News reported that congressional investigators believe this evidence could indicate why Pelosi believed she was responsible for the security failures which she seemed to admit in the HBO footage.

Four days before the riots, Trump’s Pentagon offered National Guard assistance.

The final report of the Select Committee omits another important piece of evidence. Despite President Trump’s rhetoric, which called for senators and congressmen to refuse to count the electoral votes in states where he suspected fraud had been committed, Trump’s Defense Department provided National Guard troops to guard the Capitol only days before January 6.

Capitol security, including the Capitol Police and House and Senate Sergeants at Arms, rejected these initial offers.

Trump rejects Trump’s offer of National Guard

The U.S. Capitol Police compiled a timeline that showed Trump Pentagon officials contacted Capitol Police deputy chief Sean Gallagher on Jan. 2, 2020, to ask if there was a request for soldiers. However, the offer was rejected after consulting with the then-Chief Steve Sund.

Capitol Police received new evidence that indicated there could be violence after the Trump rally on the Ellipse. Capitol Police emails and documents from late December 2020 show that intelligence had been collected that showed some groups planning to attend the Trump rally were discussing tactics such as blocking tunnels leading into the Capitol on social media.

Sund, after the assessment changed, reevaluated his situation and asked security officials to grant him permission to request the deployment of the National Guard as a supplement to his forces. Just the News reported that both the Senate Sergeants-at Arms and the House Sergeants at Arms refused the request.

The House Sergeants at Arms answer directly to the Speaker, at the time Rep. Pelosi. And the Senate Sergeants at Arms answer to the Senate Committee on Rules and Administration headed at the time by Sen. Amy Klobuchar (D-Minn).

Capitol is left unlocked by security personnel

Just the News captured footage last year showing that a door at the west end of the U.S. Capitol had been left unlocked and unguarded. This allowed more than 300 protesters into the building during the peak of the riot.

The video shows that Capitol Police had directed a few intruders in the building to an emergency exit marked with a sign. The doors remain unlocked after a few intruders leave the building. This allows hundreds of protestors into the building without any police presence.
