The President delivers a defiant address amid a slew of Democratic outbursts.
In an address to a joint meeting of Congress, President Trump declared on Tuesday that Americans have regained their confidence and that the American Dream is “unstoppable”. The speech was interrupted by Democrats.

Al Green, a Texas Democrat, shouted “You have no mandate” at the President as his speech began. Other Democrats displayed signs that read “false,” or “lie after lies.”

Mr. Trump has criticized the Democrats’ hyperpartisanship.
There is nothing that I could say to please the Democrats. “Nothing,” he replied. It’s sad, and shouldn’t have been that way.
Trump’s record-length address lasted almost an hour and forty minutes. Democrats had criticized him for not doing enough to lower the price of household items, a problem he promised to tackle on his very first day as president.
He made his remarks on the same day that he imposed stiff tariffs against imports from America’s closest trading partners. He levied a 25% tariff on imports from Canada and Mexico, which went into effect on Tuesday. This was a measure he said he had to take to ensure greater cooperation at the border as well as to combat illicit fentanyl. It sparked immediate retaliation, and fears of a trade war. He raised tariffs to 20% on Monday for goods coming from China.

According to the president, lowering energy costs will lower prices. Trump pointed out that he declared an energy emergency in his first days as president to increase oil and natural gas leases, and increase pipeline construction.

Trump announced the U.S. had also apprehended the “top terrorist responsible” for a suicide bombing in Afghanistan that claimed the lives of 13 soldiers during the American withdrawal.
