Donald Trump announced on Tuesday that America would take control of Gaza, removing the tunnels and explosives that Hamas had left behind after its war with Israel. He also said that America was taking a long-term position.
Trump said, “The US is taking over the Gaza Strip and we’ll do a good job too.” We will love it, and we’ll be responsible for removing all the dangerous weapons and bombs on the site… as well as destroying the destroyed buildings.
The announcement was made as Trump spoke with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu. This is the first time a foreign leader has visited Trump since the Inauguration.
Trump said he wanted to move the majority, or even all, of Gaza’s Palestinian population to another Arab country or a Muslim one.

It was surprising and new to think that the U.S. would actually take over Gaza and establish a presence there.
Trump said that the U.S. will develop Gaza economically by sending troops, if needed, and making investments.
He said the potential of Gaza was “unbelievable,” but that Palesitnian controls of Gaza would “never work.” He also added: “You must learn from history… We have the opportunity to do something spectacular… The Riviera of the Middle East.”
He added that he imagined “the whole world” living in Gaza, and said: “I believe you’ll turn [Gaza] international. unbelievable place. The potential of the Gaza Strip seems to be unimaginable. “I think that the whole world will be present, including representatives from around the globe.”
A reporter asked Trump if the U.S. was entitled to take control of Gaza. He incorrectly called it “sovereign territories” (there’s no Palestinian state or sovereign power on the territory).
Trump didn’t reply directly, but he said that American control over Gaza would increase the “stability” of the region while the different nations worked together to achieve peace.
Netanyahu, who has never advocated anything similar to what Trump proposed in the past, said that this idea “could change history” and was “worth consideration.”
Even in Israel it is taboo to advocate the “transfer of Palestinians” from Gaza or Judea and Samaria.
Trump had previously proposed to buy Greenland. He is therefore not opposed to the idea that America could take over territory overseas. The idea of taking control of war-torn Gaza, however, is unique and could be revolutionary.
