Former NYC Mayor Michael Bloomberg endorses Andrew Cuomo in city’s mayoral race

Michael Bloomberg Endorses Andrew Cuomo for NYC Mayor

Former New York City Mayor Michael Bloomberg has officially thrown his support behind ex-Governor Andrew Cuomo in the upcoming New York City mayoral elections. Bloomberg’s endorsement spans both the Democratic primary set for June 24 and the subsequent general election.

“I care deeply about the future of our city, and since leaving office, it has been difficult to watch its struggles, especially since the pandemic,” Bloomberg remarked. Despite not endorsing any candidates in the 2021 Democratic mayoral primary, Bloomberg did support Mayor Eric Adams in the general election of that same year. It’s noteworthy that Adams is running as an independent in this year’s election.

Why Bloomberg Chose Cuomo

Bloomberg praised Cuomo’s qualifications for the mayoralty, emphasizing his superior management experience and governmental acumen. “In sizing up the field in the race for mayor, there is one candidate whose management experience and government know-how stand above the others: Andrew Cuomo,” Bloomberg stated.

Andrew Cuomo resigned from his gubernatorial post in 2021 amid accusations of sexual harassment, which he has consistently rebutted, claiming they were politically motivated. With New York City facing ongoing crises, Cuomo highlighted the significance of Bloomberg’s support: “Today, in this critical moment as New York City faces another crisis, I appreciate Mayor Bloomberg’s support and faith in my vision for a stronger, safer, more affordable New York City for all,” Cuomo expressed on Tuesday.
