Hamas says its guards killed a hostage, wounded two others; IDF investigating claim
The spokesman for the terrorist group blames Israel and says that efforts are underway to save two severely wounded female captives.
Hamas’ military wing claimed on Monday that terror group members assigned to guard Israeli hostages had killed one male hostage and severely wounded two other female hostages. Israel Defense Forces (IDF) said that it couldn’t confirm or deny this claim.
Hudhaifa Kashlout, also known as Abu Obeida, the spokesperson for the Al Qassam Brigades said that the shootings took place in two separate incidents. He added that “attempts” were being made to save the lives of wounded hostages.
The statement by Abu Obeida, released on Telegram, didn’t identify the hostages, or state when or where incidents occurred.
He blamed it on Israeli “massacres”, which he called Palestinians.
Abu Obeida stated that “the enemy government [Israel] is fully responsible for these massacres, and the reactions that resulted in the deaths of Zionist prisoners.”
He said that an investigation committee was formed to look into the incidents.
The IDF stated that “at this time, we have no intelligence which allows us to refute Hamas’ claims or confirm them.”
The IDF said in a press release that they were “continuing to investigate and check the credibility of this statement” and would update with any new information as soon as we had it.
Hamas claimed for the first time that its guards had killed hostages. The terror group has frequently attributed the killing of hostages in previous incidents to Israeli airstrikes.
Israel has dismissed Hamas’s statements about the deaths of hostages, as deplorable mental warfare.
During its rampage of thousands through southern Israel, the terror group kidnapped and killed nearly 1,200 people.
The bodies of 39 IDF-confirmed dead hostages are believed to be among the 111 hostages still held by Hamas in Gaza. Two Israeli civilians, who entered Gaza in 2014 and 2015. Also held by the terror group are the bodies of the two IDF soldiers killed in 2014.
Abu Obeida, at the start of the war threatened to kill Israeli hostages by releasing footage.
