Masjedi stated that Soleimani is “a symbol of the struggle against terrorists and a key figure,”

In a statement to journalists on Wednesday, Iranian Brigadier General Iraj Masjedi – a senior commander of the Quds force of the Islamic Revolutionary Guards Corps – threatened Donald Trump, the US President-elect, by calling for Trump “to suffer revenge” and to “be prosecuted”, for ordering the murder of Qassem Solimani.

Masjedi stated that Soleimani “was a symbol and a key figure in fighting terrorists,” and that “by carrying this assassination out, Trump did greatest service to terrorist movement.”

Masjedi made his remarks two days before the fifth Anniversary of the American Strike on Soleimani who was the Chief of the IRGC Quds Force.

“The US President assassinated a saint from Iran.” Masjedi continued, “A man who was both a symbol and major force in the fight against terror.”

Ayatollah Khamenei had earlier on Wednesday eulogized former Quds Force Commander in a meeting held with the families of “martyrs and veterans” as well as resistance activists, according to Iranian state-run media IRNA.

Khamenei said that Soleimani’s strategy was to revitalize the Resistance Front.

Iran indicates openness to nuclear negotiations

Abbas Araghchi, Iranian Foreign minister, told Tasnim, a semiofficial IRGC news outlet, that Iran would adopt the same stance as the United States in any potential nuclear talks which may take place after Trump’s inauguration.

Araghchi stated that if the US takes that same course (of pressures again), our response would also follow that route. If they choose the path of fair, just, and dignified negotiation and speak in the language of respect then we will also speak this language.

The Iranian Foreign Minister added that, if the new American administration does not choose the latter option, the Islamic Republic will “continue to go our own way (with the nuclear programme), just as we did in the past and continue to do so now.”
