Epstein grand jury documents could be released under new Florida law

DeSantis stated that the investigation into Epstein’s case was hindered by the fact that there was no access available to grand jury documents surrounding the case.

Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis has signed into law a bill that will make grand jury documents public, including those relating to businessman Jeffery E. Epstein.

DeSantis has signed House Bill 117, which will allow grand jury testimony to be disclosed while revising the list that prohibits disclosure of witness testimony. It also creates an exception for media and interested parties.

DeSantis stated that “justice delayed is justice denied” and that this entire ordeal had proven to be that in many ways.

DeSantis stated that the investigation into Epstein’s case was hindered by the fact that there was no access available to grand jury documents surrounding the case.

DeSantis stated, “The Legislature and myself agree that in rare cases there should be a way to get the truth out and to try and pursue justice.”

Jeffrey Epstein, his girlfriend Ghislaine Maxiwell and their private jet were accused of bringing underage girls to his island in the U.S. Virgin Islands.

Epstein was charged with criminal offenses in Florida in 2006. He managed to negotiate a plea agreement that allowed him to avoid a lengthy prison sentence. He was given a sentence of 18 months, but spent more than a full year in Florida’s state prison.

Epstein is alleged to have committed suicide in 2019 while waiting for trial in New York, after prosecutors decided they weren’t bound by the terms of Epstein’s 2006 agreement.

DeSantis stated, “We are sitting here, decades later. You’ve got Epstein and Maxwell in Florida prison, yet nothing has happened.” “How can that be possible, given the magnitude of everything going on? And what was going in Florida was just a fraction of all of it?” DeSantis asked.

DeSantis said that Epstein engaged in these abuses and activities in New York City and the U.S. Virgin Islands. He also noted Epstein’s massive operation which targeted very young girls.

DeSantis asked, “Why did this happen?” It happened because someone who was rich and well-connected was able engineer a result that an average citizen could never achieve.
