Inside the anti-Israeli world of mayoral candidate Zohran Mamdani: ‘More radical than radical left’

New York City mayoral candidate Zohran Mamdani has been described as “more radical than the radical left” by a seasoned political campaign veteran, who chose to remain anonymous. This individual expressed to The Post that Mamdani’s political stance is uniquely extreme, stating, “He is in a category all by himself. I’ve never seen someone so far to the left. He’s anti-Israel, he’s all up in the protests and violence. This is not how a mayoral candidate behaves.”

Despite being relatively unknown until recently, Mamdani, a 33-year-old Democratic Assembly member, has proven to be a formidable fundraiser in the mayoral race, trailing only behind the controversial former governor Andrew Cuomo. As a staunch member of the Democratic Socialists of America and the Muslim son of filmmaker Mira Nair, Mamdani has amassed nearly a million dollars in the past two months, supported by over 16,000 donors. His campaign highlighted that more than $500,000 of the funds raised since January qualify for the city’s eight-to-one matching funds program, potentially boosting his campaign coffers by an additional $4 million next month.

Mamdani’s activism was on full display recently when he attempted to confront border czar Tom Homan over Trump’s immigration policies, during which he was recorded shouting at the acting ICE director and subsequently removed by police at the State Capitol. His confrontational approach extended to his arrest at a pro-Palestinian rally outside Senator Chuck Schumer’s residence, following the recent conflict initiated by Hamas against Israel.

In legislative efforts, Mamdani introduced a bill in 2023 aimed at curtailing New York funding for Israeli settlement activities in the West Bank. This bill, if passed, would empower the state attorney general to dissolve organizations that fund settlements in the region.

Columbia lost $400 Million in federal funding for good reason; they’ve been coddling up to America’s enemies. And the progressive left shouldn’t be so shocked because they’ve been helping to fund those antisemitic protests on college campuses. In fact, we have proof. Watch it here and then Stand with the Coalition for Jewish Values so we can rebuild America’s moral foundation.

Another political observer, who also requested anonymity, criticized Mamdani’s political ideology, labeling it as a mix of socialism and antisemitism, and questioned the wisdom of New Yorkers supporting such a figure. Despite these controversies, Mamdani’s charisma and effective engagement with the public have been noted as his strengths.

Mamdani’s radical inclinations are often attributed to his family background. His father, Mahmood Mamdani, has been vocal about his views on Israel, advocating for the dismantling of the Jewish state in a speech at Columbia University in 2014. Mira Nair, Mamdani’s mother, was reportedly involved in a campaign to exclude Israeli actress Gal Gadot from presenting at the Oscars due to her support for Israel’s military actions.

Mamdani’s personal history includes moving from Uganda to South Africa and then to New York at a young age, where he later graduated from the Bronx High School of Science and Bowdoin College. His political career is complemented by his artistic endeavors as a rapper under the stage name Mr. Cardamom.

Since being elected to the State Assembly’s 36th District in 2021, Mamdani has participated in various forms of activism, including a hunger strike in support of the New York Taxi Workers Alliance. His endorsement by the DSA underscores his alignment with policies such as defunding the police, supporting transgender rights in prison assignments, and advocating for unconditional amnesty for all immigrants.
