TV reporter struck by bullet fragment at Lucas Kunce shooting range campaign event
A bullet fragment hit a TV journalist at a shooting area during a Tuesday campaign event for U.S. Senate Candidate Lucas Kunce. Kunce provided first aid.
Kunce, a Democrat from Kansas City, was visiting a private residence in Holt, north of Kansas City, with Adam Kinzinger (a former U.S. Rep. from Illinois) when a fragment seemed to have ricocheted. Kunce, a Democrat, was at a private residence near Holt north of Kansas City with former U.S. Rep. Adam Kinzinger, an Illinois Republican. A fragment appeared to have ricocheted off a target.
Ryan Gamboa of KSHB-TV began to bleed from his arm. Kunce, a Marine veteran with 13 years of service, wrapped his belt and gauze around the reporter’s elbow to stop the bleeding. Later, the wound was wrapped in medical tape. Gamboa continued his mission at the range.
Two weeks before Election Day, the shooting range was held. Kunce’s campaign ads have highlighted his military background, and some show him shooting a gun.
Kunce has a steep uphill battle in his campaign to defeat Sen. Josh Hawley. Hawley is a Republican who is seeking re-election in the Senate. Hawley received 51% of the support in a September Emerson College Polling/The Hill poll, while Kunce got 40%.
Kunce and Kinzinger were to have a rally in Kansas City on Tuesday night.
