Democrat Sen. Bob Casey Announces Run for 4th Term in Battleground Pennsylvania
Senator Bob Casey (D.PA), who is the longest serving Democrat U.S. senator from Pennsylvania, announced Monday that he will run for a fourth term.
“Folks! I’m running to re-elect you. We still have much work to do in order to break through the gridlock, protect powerful special interests and make Pennsylvanians’ lives easier. Casey tweeted that the map was back and that he wasn’t done yet.
The power of the incumbent will allow the Democrat senator to run for another term, giving the Democrats a boost during a difficult year. Although Casey isn’t one of the most vulnerable incumbents, he is running for another term in a battleground state. His party will be already stretched thin, as it will need to defend 23 of 33 Senate seats that are up for reelection.
Casey told the Associated Press that he has spent years on the road, going to all 67 counties and delivering services for our state’s citizens. “And that’s how I’ll approach the campaign: We’re going everywhere and trying to win every vote.”
According to the Associated Press, Casey will be turning 63 in a few days and plans to concentrate his campaign on infrastructure support, bringing back semiconductor industry, subsidizing hydrogen fuel plant subsidies, and lowering drug prices. Casey supported all of Biden’s top priorities during his presidency.
The National Republican Senatorial Committee (NRSC), the Senate Republicans’ campaign arm is already attacking Casey because of his past as Pennsylvania state treasurer. He oversaw investments of more than $31 million in 2006, from state worker pensions, into a Chinese government-backed company, which was then considered a national security risk.
Philip Letsou, NRSC spokesperson, said that Bob Casey “has made a career out of shady self-dealing. He has used his Senate seat to benefit his family and risked Pennsylvania workers’ pensions in Chinese-run companies.”
