Maryland Officials Stockpile 2.5 Years Worth of Abortion Pills
Maryland officials stockpiled enough abortion pills to last two and a half years. They join several other Democrat led states in waiting for a ruling from a federal appeals courts that will determine the availability of mifepristone.
WYPR (an NPR affiliate) reported Monday that “the state decided to stockpile the drug back in April, after a federal court in Texas temporarily stopped its use, stating that the Food and Drug Administration had improperly approved the drug 23 years ago.”
Maryland’s Democrat Governor. Wes Moore, the Maryland Department of Health’s Director of Medical Center and the University of Maryland Medical Center’s Wes Moore, announced that they would be working to get the abortion pills if mifepristone was taken off the market.
We made this decision [to stockpile two-and half years’ worth of the medication] based both on how we store in general and the expiration dates of medications,” said Dr. Nilesh Kayanaraman of MDH, the deputy secretary for Public Health Services. We believe this will allow us time to find a solution that is longer than two or three years, if things change.
According to the report, the abortion pills cost the Board of Public Works approximately $1.2 million in state funds.
California, Massachusetts Washington and Oregon, all pro-abortion states, have made similar announcements. Their states are stockpiling abortion pills in sufficient quantities to kill millions of unborn children.
Mifepristone, the first of two drugs used to induce abortions by medication, is administered as the first dose. Mifepristone blocks the progesterone produced by the mother to nourish her pregnancy. The lining of the mother’s uterus degrades when progesterone is stopped. Blood and nourishment to the developing child are then cut off. Misoprostol, also known as Cytotec, causes contractions and blood to force the baby out of the mother’s uterus.
Guttmacher Institute, a pro-abortion group, found that more than half of abortions performed in the United States are performed with mifepristone. In 2020, the drug will account for 53 percent (up from 39 percent) of all abortions.
