Republican David McCormick is expected to announce he’s entering Pennsylvania’s US Senate race

David McCormick, a Republican, is expected to announce on Thursday that he’ll enter Pennsylvania’s U.S. Senate Race and make his second attempt for the office. This time he’ll take on Democratic Senator Bob Casey.

McCormick’s assistants have invited McCormick to make a “special announcement” at the Heinz History Center at Pittsburgh at 5 pm. ET.

McCormick’s plans were previously reported by the Associated Press, citing under condition of anonymity three sources who discussed his intentions.

Next year, the Senate candidates from Pennsylvania will be on the same ticket as the presidential candidates. This is a crucial state for the Democrats to maintain their control over the White House and Senate.

Is Israel’s fate tied to Syria?

Syria has fallen, but we are still far from seeing the last of the hostages returned. Our brave soldiers must fight to secure Israel’s borders, rid the region of emboldened attackers all over the Middle East, and adapt to the escalating threats from Syria, but Israel doesn’t have enough supplies to properly win this war. Can you support our IDF sons and daughters as they continue fighting for the Survival of the Promised Land?.

The race between Casey vs. McCormick is likely to be the most expensive in the country. It will also be closely watched, especially in an election year where Democrats face a challenging Senate map in 2024 that forces them to defend incumbents from red states like Montana, Ohio and West Virginia as well as multiple swing states.

McCormick ran last year for the seat vacated by retiring Republican Senator Pat Toomey. He lost in the Republican Primary to celebrity heart surgeon, Dr. Mehmet OZ. Democrat John Fetterman beat Oz in the general election of November.

McCormick is 58 years old and was recruited heavily to run by the GOP establishment. He has so far a strong GOP primary field. He’s been talking about running for months, and Democrats see him as Casey de facto’s opponent.

Casey will not face any serious opposition in the primary of his party. He is a stalwart in Pennsylvania’s Democratic Party. His father was a two-term Governor and he has been the longest serving Democrat ever to serve in the Senate.

Casey served in state office for a decade — first as auditor general, then as treasurer. He won three Senate elections by no less than nine percentage points.

Casey is a strong ally to both labor unions and Joe Biden. Casey, in Congress, has supported all of Biden’s top priorities, and formed a close relationship to the president.

McCormick is the son, who was born near Bloomsburg, of Pennsylvania’s very first chancellor for its state university system. He was awarded a Bronze Star in recognition of his service during the first Gulf War. McCormick worked in Pittsburgh, where he managed the online auction house FreeMarkets Inc. in the early days of the technology boom.

He held senior positions in the administration of former President George W. Bush before moving to Connecticut and working for hedge fund Bridgewater Associates. He bought a home in Pittsburgh and resigned from his position as CEO before running for Senate. However, Democrats have already attacked him because of indications that he lives still on Connecticut’s “Gold Coast”.
