Youngkin Goes After Illegal Immigrants Trying to Vote
The Republican Governor Glenn Youngkin issued an executive order on Wednesday to implement additional voter integrity measures in advance of the presidential election in 2024. This includes stronger protections against illegal immigrants registering to vote or casting ballots.
The order says that “the Department of Motor Vehicles will expedite interagency data-sharing with the Department of Elections of all non-citizens, by generating daily files of all non-citizens’ transactions including addresses and document number,” According to Code of Virginia SS24.2-429 all registrars must cancel the registrations of any non-citizens that have falsely claimed they were citizens, such as by forging documentation or using other methods of improper registration. Code of Virginia SS 24.1019 also requires that said registrars immediately notify the Commonwealth Attorney for their respective jurisdiction of any alleged illegal conduct. Code of Virginia SS 24.2-1004 gives the Attorney General’s Office full authority to enforce the election laws.
In order to maintain the accuracy of voter lists, it is also required that they be updated daily.
The Department of Elections Commissioner shall certify to the Governor in writing that the following security procedures have been implemented to protect voter list:
|
1. The Voter List is updated daily.
a. Ad new eligible voters.
b. Removing voters who moved according to federal and state laws.
Remove dead voters.
d. Remove all ineligibles, such as felons or mentally handicapped voters.
If an individual attempts to register to vote intentionally or accidentally, the Department of Motor Vehicles will remove them from the voter registration list statewide.
The Department of Elections compares a list of non-citizens with the list of registered voters, and notifies any matches if they do not confirm their citizenship within a 14-day period.
“The Virginia Model for Election Security Works.” It’s not a Democrat issue or a Republican issue. This is an American issue and relates to Virginia. Each legal vote should be counted, without any illegal votes or inaccurate voting machines. “In Virginia, we do not play games and our election security model is working,” Youngkin said in a release about the order.
“We only use paper ballots and maintain a strict chain-of-custody.” We test our counting machines before every election, and they are never connected to the Internet. We do not mass mail ballots. We monitor our drop boxes 24/7. We update our voter lists daily using DMV and trusted data sources. Not only do we add new voters but also remove any that shouldn’t be there, such as deceased individuals, people who have moved and non-citizens who have attempted to register.
