Kamala Harris Retreats in Scramble to Defend Blue States

The campaign of Vice President Kamala Harris is on the defensive as Donald Trump, former president, gains momentum in blue states. This is because Harris failed to get a boost after the convention that most modern campaigns consider a given.

The campaign has sent Harris and her surrogates – ticket mate Minnesota Governor. Tim Walz, along with his husband Doug Emhoff, will be visiting blue states following a weekend-long swing state tour.

Harris is reportedly planning to visit New Hampshire on Wednesday for a yet-to-be announced campaign event. She had a 4-point lead in the state before the convention, according to a survey conducted by Emerson College/WHDH. Walz is in Minnesota where Trump, according to two KTSP/SurveyUSA surveys, has reduced Harris’s advantage from ten points to just five since Walz joined his ticket. Emhoff is reportedly planning to cross the Potomac River on a fundraising trip to Virginia, a state where Trump polled surprisingly well in the 2024 cycle.

A detour is normal during the long and arduous campaigning season. These trips are notable for a campaign that is just getting started after the collapse of President Joe Biden. The campaign must make each day count, with only two months left before Election Day.

The blue state visit follows a weekend of swing state visits planned and a multi-day Harris-Walz romp in Georgia, which left many pundits scratching.

The unusual scheduling comes on the heels a horrible week that was highlighted by the campaign trashing 13 Gold Star Families — an attack which blew up in their face spectacularly.

Biden is expected to be sent out on the campaign trail as another sign of the campaign’s fumbling.

ABC News/Ipsos revealed in a poll conducted Sunday that Harris’s support for her party did not increase after she accepted the nomination at the Democratic National Convention.
