Promise Kept: Trump Blocked Every Border Migrant in May

Significant Reduction in Illegal Migrant Releases
In a remarkable shift, Border Patrol agents did not release any illegal migrants into the United States throughout May, demonstrating a dramatic reduction from the more than 60,000 individuals who were allowed entry in the same month the previous year. This report, detailed by the New York Post, underscores a significant tightening of U.S. border control measures, marking a 93% decrease in releases compared to May 2024.
Enhanced Border Security Under the Trump Administration
The current strategy is a direct result of the heightened support provided to Customs and Border Protection (CBP), thanks to the strong backing from President Donald Trump’s administration. Acting CBP Commissioner Pete Flores praised the administration’s commitment, which has led to the substantial decrease in illegal border crossings. “Under the leadership of this administration, CBP has received historic support resulting in another 93% decrease in illegal crossings along the southwest border this month when compared with last year,” Flores stated.
Critique of Previous Administration’s Policies
Former border czar Tom Homan highlighted that under the Biden administration, a significant number of illegal migrants were deliberately released into the U.S. He criticized these policies for intentionally avoiding economical detention solutions, suggesting that such actions were politically motivated with long-term implications. “They did it on purpose, because you put them in ICE detention bed, they get a hearing in 35 days. But to release them into a hotel room at 500 bucks a night, their hearings could be 5, 7, 9 years,” Homan explained. This approach, according to Homan, was designed to prolong the legal process, potentially waiting out for a political shift in favor of Democrats and possible amnesty.
Comparison of Migrant Policies Between Administrations
Under former President Biden, the majority of migrants were released as soon as they crossed the southern border, enabling them to seek employment to settle their smuggling debts and consequently encourage others to follow their path. Contrarily, the Trump administration has implemented measures to detain these individuals, hindering their ability to pay off these debts and effectively disincentivizing further migration.
Support and Recognition from Political Leaders

The stringent border policies have earned commendation from key Republican leaders. House Speaker Mike Johnson (R-LA) and Texas Gov. Greg Abbott (R) lauded the effective management of the border situation. “PROMISES MADE, PROMISES KEPT,” Johnson celebrated on X, applauding the strength of America First leadership exhibited by President Trump. Governor Abbott lauded the zero-tolerance approach: “Trump – 0, Biden – 64,000. Incredible. THIS is what real leadership looks like on the border.”
This considerable decrease in the release of illegal migrants underlines a firm and effective border control policy, spotlighting the stark contrasts in immigration strategies between the current administration and its predecessor.
