DHS to Fire FEMA Staffers Who Paid for Hotels to House Illegal Immigrants

The Department of Homeland Security will take action against Federal Emergency Management Administration staffers accused of spending $59,000,000 last week on illegal immigrants, in violation of law.

“We must eliminate FEMA as it is today, just like Secretary Noem stated yesterday. It is another example of a blatant disregard for the law. “Those who circumvented the leadership and made this payment unilaterally will be fired, and held accountable,” said a DHS official to National Review on Monday.

Elon Musk, the billionaire head of the Department of Government Efficiency under President Donald Trump, told X on Monday that his team had discovered FEMA’s expenditures and would demand the agency to claw back the money.

The @DOGE team has just discovered that FEMA sent $59M last week to luxury hotels in New York City for the housing of illegal migrants. Musk wrote that sending this money was against the law, and in violation of the executive order issued by the president.

“This money was meant to help Americans in times of disaster, but instead it is spent on luxury hotels for illegals!” Today, a clawback request will be issued to recover those funds.”

National Review has reached FEMA to get their comments.

In the first week of Trump’s presidency, he signed an executive directive to establish a council that would review FEMA operations to root out any political bias within the agency. The order was issued in response to a scandal that involved a Florida-based FEMA employee, who had ordered her staff not to enter homes with Trump signs after Hurricane Milton. Marn’i Washington claimed that the order she gave was in line with FEMA policies and had been approved by higher-ranking officials.

House Republicans held an hearing in November on Washington’s directive as well as apparent problems FEMA was having with providing aid to areas of North Carolina that were hardest hit by Hurricane Helene. Then-FEMA Administrator Deanne Criswell was grilled by lawmakers on the issue of political bias within FEMA. She insisted that this problem did not extend beyond Washington and she was asked to address any specific problems constituents had with receiving hurricane aid.

James Comer, the chairman of the House Oversight Committee (R. Ky.), said that during the hearing a whistleblower had made another allegation about political bias by FEMA workers against Trump supporters’ homes in Georgia.

Trump visited hurricane Helene survivors last month in North Carolina, and he criticized FEMA for its response to the disaster. Trump proposed eliminating FEMA and transferring emergency funds to the state governments for future recovery efforts.

Kristi Noem is Homeland Security Secretary and oversees FEMA. She made similar remarks on Sunday when asked how she would advise Trump in handling FEMA.

Noem replied: “I’d say yes, get rid of FEMA as it is today.”

Noem continued, “We need to continue to provide resources, funds and financial assistance to those who are affected by disasters such as Hurricane Helene or the California fires. But you should let local officials decide how to deploy this money so that it can be distributed much faster. We don’t want bureaucrats to pick and choose winners.”

Trump’s executive orders calls for the first review council meeting to be held within 90 days, and a report to be prepared within 180 days about what changes to make to FEMA.
