Republican Senators Demands Biden Administration Denounce UN-Backed Report They Claim Supports ‘Pedophiles, Sexual Predators’
Seven U.S. Republican senators across the country demanded answers on Monday from the Biden administration. They asked if officials knew about the United Nations-backed study that suggested global leaders normalize the practice of pedophilia, allowing children to decide whether or not they want to engage in sexual activity with adults.
John Kennedy, R-LA, said in a press release that the U.N. effort to normalize sexual activity with minors is barbaric. It violates children’s basic human rights, and we ignore our responsibility to protect these children from abuse. American taxpayer dollars should not fund pedophilia, or any group that promotes it.
Kennedy joined six other members of Congress, including Steve Daines (R – Montana), Marco Rubio (R – FL), and Mike Braun (R – Indiana). ), Mike Braun (R-Ind. Rick Scott (R.-Fla.), Mike Lee(R.-Utah), and Ted Budd(N.C.) sent a letter to the U.S. Linda Thomas-Greenfield, the U.N. Ambassador spoke about the report that was backed by this intergovernmental organization.
In a human rights-based analysis of the impact of criminal law that prohibits sexual and reproductive healthcare rights, consent-based sexual activity, or gender ideology, the International Committee of Jurists, UNAIDS and the Office of the Human Rights High Commissioner (OHCHR), published a report in November, calling for the decriminalization of offenses related “to sex, drug abuse, HIV, sexual health and reproduction, homelessness, and poverty”.
After reading the U.N.-sponsored 32-page report, Kennedy and his colleagues argued that the report claimed that minors could consent to having sex with an adult. This led Kennedy and the rest of the lawmakers to refuse funding for U.N. initiatives which promote underage sexual activity.
The lawmakers wrote: “We are against any foreign attempt to undermine the long-established legal principle that states that children lack the mental or emotional maturity to consent to sexual relationships.” We, therefore, ask that you immediately oppose these efforts and rescind all U.S. tax payer money that was contributed to the United Nations to create this report.
The report, according to lawmakers, contradicts Article 35 of the United Nations Convention on the Rights of the Child which requires nations to protect their children against all forms of exploitation or sexual abuse.
The report continued by saying that the law in the United States and many other countries affirm that all forms of sex between adults and children are coercive. It also added that the study gives “credence” to the vile pedophiles, sexual predators, and others who say that their crimes should be decriminalized, because the children could consent to sex.
After the UN report circulated in news outlets, social media platforms such as Twitter, Instagram and TikTok and was widely shared, they clarified that “sexual conduct” meant only incidents where both parties met the criteria.
The 8 March Principles don’t call for decriminalizing sex with minors, nor for the removal of the minimum age of consent for sex that is prescribed in the country,” said the International Commission of Jurists in a press release. In fact, the ICJ emphasizes that States are under a clear international obligation to protect children against all forms of abuse, including child sexual abuse. This includes criminalizing such conduct.
It wasn’t immediately clear whether the UN intended correcting its vague language.
In a press conference last week, U.N. spokesperson Stephane Dujarric described the claims as “malicious misreporting” on a report about the age of consent.
GOP lawmakers asked that U.N. Thomas-Greenfield provided them with answers to questions about the report and denounced support for it.
