Marjorie Taylor Greene moves to impeach DHS Secretary Mayorkas

Marjorie Taylor Greene, a Georgia Republican Rep., unveiled on Thursday a resolution calling for the impeachment of Department of Homeland Security secretary Alejandro Mayorkas. Mayorkas has been a lightning-rod of conservative criticisms of Biden’s immigration policies.

Greene’s attempt is the latest in an ongoing campaign to remove Mayorkas from office for his handling of the unprecedented surge of illegal arrivals in the United States. U.S. Customs and Border Protection reported that more than 7,000,000 migrants have been encountered at the Southwest Land Border since President Joe Biden assumed office.

Mayorkas’ failure to keep the border between Mexico and Canada secure is cited as a reason for his removal.

Greene wrote: “Alejandro Nicholas Mayorkas’s willful admission of border crossers and terrorists as well as human traffickers, drugs and other contraband has violated the Secure Fence Act of 2006.” Alejandro Mayorkas has violated the oath he took to uphold the Constitution by allowing approximately 10,000,000 illegals to cross our border.

The report continued, “The invasion that is taking place at our southern borders poses a direct threat to national security against the States as well as the citizens of those States.” “Secretary Mayorkas willfully abdicated his duty to protect States from invasion and secure the border, thus violating article IV section 4 of Constitution.”

Pat Fallon, a Texas Republican Representative, filed articles of impeachment in January this year against Mayorkas. Arizona GOP Rep. Andy Biggs filed articles of impeachment against Mayorkas in August 2021. Then-House Speaker Kevin McCarthy floated this idea in April 2022.
