Michigan Gov. Gretchen Whitmer criticized the far-left movement of her party on Sunday to vote for President Biden instead of the “uncommitted” ballot in the state’s primary.

The Democrats said that snubbing Biden is a way for those, like Rashida Tlaib, a member of the “Squad”, to protest President Obama’s refusal to declare a ceasefire in the Israel/Hamas conflict. This only fuels his Republican opponent, Ms. Whitmer.

She said, “It is important to not lose sight of the reality that any vote not cast for Joe Biden would support a second Trump-term.” A second Trump-term would be devastating not only to our fundamental rights and democracy at home but also to our foreign policy. This is a man that supported the Muslim ban.”

Ms. Tlaib, Congress’ only Palestinian-American, and dozens of state and local progressive officials have become increasingly alienated from Mr. Biden and U.S. support for Israel, as the civilian death toll in Gaza continues to climb. They plan to vote “uncommitted”, in Michigan’s primary on Tuesday.

Biden won’t face any obstacles to win the nomination but he will need to gain the support of the Arab and Muslim populations in the swing state before the November election. In Michigan, he won the 2020 election against former president Donald Trump by only 3 percentage points.

Ms. Whitmer stated, “I understand the people’s pain and I will continue to work with them to build bridges.”
