Senate Majority leader Chuck Schumer (D-N.Y.) has not said anything about how his chamber will deal with the impeachment of Homeland Security Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas. However, multiple media outlets report that Democrats intend to dismiss the charges quickly before any trial begins.

The Democrats have a number of options to speed up a trial. They can either dismiss the charges or file them. This only requires a simple majority.

The Washington Examiner reported that Senate Republicans convinced House Speaker Mike Johnson (R-La.) to delay the delivery of articles of impeachment until Monday in order to buy time and pressure Democrats into holding a trial. The articles were originally scheduled to be delivered on Wednesday.

“It is completely political.” Politico reported that she had said “It’s not serious.” We will do everything we need to do and work with Republicans so that we can get rid of this as quickly as possible.
