McDonald’s at SF’s Stonestown Galleria closing Sunday after more than 30 years, owner says
Scott Rodrick, the owner of the business, said: “This is an incredibly difficult day for me and my family.”
On Sunday, the McDonald’s in Stonestown Galleria will close permanently after 30 years.
Dion Lim of ABC7 received a confirmation from ABC7 regarding the closure.
Scott Rodrick, the franchisee owner, has stated that there are two main reasons for this closure.
He said that the Stonestown landlord refused to negotiate an affordable and long-term rent.
Rodrick stated that the shared mall tenant fees and property taxes were the most expensive paid by the company for a single site.
He said that the cost of running a business in San Francisco is continuing to rise at an unprecedented rate. The new minimum wage of $20 for California fast-food workers added to the pressure to keep this location open.
McDonald’s at 255 Winston Drive is a Stonestown institution.
Rodrick stated, “This is an incredibly difficult day for my entire family.”
He said that all the employees had been offered jobs in nearby locations and the vast majority will stay with the company.
