Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, the leader of the “Squad”, a far-left group in Congress announced on Monday her support for Joe Biden despite calls from within his party to resign following his disastrous debate with former President Donald Trump.

In a press release, the congresswoman expressed her opinion and called the matter closed due to the President’s refusal to withdraw from the race.

I spoke to him over the weekend. I’ve spoken to him extensively. He has been clear about his participation in the race since he announced it. The matter is now closed. He reiterated this to the public in the morning. Joe Biden will be our nominee. He will not be leaving the race. I am supporting him in the race.

Many have re-examined their initial stance after the first presidential debate. While many called for Biden to resign, his steadfast commitment to remain in the race caused them to reconsider. He said Monday on MSNBC Morning Joe that the “elites,” not the people, wanted him to leave the race.

I have been to all parts of the country and I am one of the few who publicly said that there would be no “red wave” in the 2022 elections. I didn’t even believe it. In 2023, when there were important elections, I told people that we would win. We won them.

I am not going anywhere as a voter. Once again, I am here for two main reasons. First, I’m here to rebuild the middle class economy, and give everyone a chance. First, everyone gets a fair shot. Two, do you remember all the talk about me not having black support? Please give me a rest. Come and watch with me. Not you guys, but the elites within the party. They know so much. Anyone of these guys who don’t believe I should run for office, run against, declare as president, or challenge me at convention.

Since then, prominent Democrats have publicly supported Biden and denounced calls for him not to run.
