Holding 800 vote lead, Iowa US Rep. Mariannette Miller-Meeks seeks House leadership role

Mariannette Miller Meeks, U.S. Rep. from the 1st Congressional District in southeastern Iowa, is seeking a leadership position within the House. She appears to be on track for a third term.

Miller-Meeks, in a letter sent to House GOP colleagues on Tuesday, put herself forward for the position of secretary of House Republican Conference. Lisa McClain, a Michigan Representative, currently holds the position.

The selection of House GOP Conference Chair Elise Stefanik by President-elect Donald Trump to be ambassador to the United Nations shook up House leadership. The secretary sits two rungs beneath the conference chair in the leadership hierarchy and helps the chair to manage the daily operations of conference staff and the office.

Miller-Meeks has yet to be declared the winner of her third term bid by the Associated Press. However, unofficial results show that she is 796 votes ahead of Democratic opponent Christina Bohannan.

On the 86th anniversary of Kristallnacht, Jews were hunted and chased throughout the streets. No Jew around the world is safe now from Iran’s thuggery. Iran and its axis of evil are expanding their maelstrom beyond the borders of Israel, and it’s why the Genesis 123 Foundation needs your support today to ensure all God’s Children and Israel are safe from the threat of genocide.

Miller-Meeks wrote in her letter that “her highly competitive district reflects the nation and the conference”, and she suggested her experience in being in office for a long time in a district in battle would be useful in her new role.

Miller-Meeks wrote: “We have just come off a historic and successful election, thanks to President Trump’s America First agenda. I believe that we now have the opportunity to lead and work to solidify our majority in Congresses yet to come.”

The GOP will maintain control of both the House and the Senate, resulting in a Republican Trifecta with Trump’s second term as President.

Miller-Meeks admitted the narrow lead of 800 votes she holds over Bohannan but stated that “it’s mathematically impossible to make up the ground with the remaining provisional voting left to count.”

Bohannan, who has not conceded, wrote last week in a post on X (formerly Twitter) that the race is too close to call. He added, “We will make sure each and every legal vote counts.”
