Biden’s DOJ Announces Lawsuit Against Elon Musk’s SpaceX

The Department of Justice revealed Thursday that federal prosecutors filed a lawsuit alleging discrimination against Elon Musk’s SpaceX.

The Justice Department has filed a lawsuit against Space Exploration Technologies Corporation today for discriminating asylees in hiring. The lawsuit claims that SpaceX, between September 2018 and May 2022, routinely discouraged refugees and asylees from applying and refused them to hire or even consider them because of their citizenship, in violation with the Immigration and Nationality (INA) Act. SpaceX discouraged refugees and asylees from applying for available positions through job postings, public announcements and other online recruitment communications that excluded refugees and asylees. SpaceX did not fairly evaluate applications from asylees or refugees. SpaceX repeatedly rejected qualified asylees and refugees because of their citizenship. SpaceX only hired U.S. Citizens and lawful Permanent Residents, from September 2018 until September 2020.

The DOJ is upset because SpaceX has hired Americans.

The United States is seeking fair consideration for refugees and asylees who have been denied employment or deterred from applying at SpaceX because of the alleged discrimination. The United States is also seeking civil penalties, which will be determined by a court, and policy changes in order to comply with the INA non-discrimination directive going forward,” DOJ says.

The Biden administration has been targeting Musk for years and has snubbed Tesla at official White House functions because its employees aren’t unionized. The White House questioned Musk’s purchase of Twitter in late 2013 and Democrats such as Senator Elizabeth Warren demanded federal investigation.
