Bill Gates reportedly boosts Harris with $50M ‘dark money’ donation: ‘This election is different’
Bill Gates has joined Elon Musk and spent tens or even hundreds of millions to support his favorite presidential candidate.
It’s not the same candidate.
According to an article published in the New York Times on Tuesday, the founder and CEO of Microsoft donated $50 million to “dark money”, a group that supports the campaign of Kamala Harris for Vice President.
The Times reported, citing “three people who were briefed about the matter,” that Mr. Gates had sent the money to Future Forward, a pro-Harris fund raising group.

“Mr. Gates discussed his pro-Harris gift with his peers. This included Mike Bloomberg, former New York City Mayor and major supporter for Future Forward, who had considered a similar sized donation,” The Times reported, citing two of those briefed.
Future Forward is not required to reveal its donors because it is a 501 (c)(4) organisation. According to the Times, the donation had been intended to remain private.
According to a Times report, Gates “expressed concerns” over events that could occur under the second term of former President Donald Trump. This includes potential cuts “to global health and family planning programs.”
The Times reported that Mr. Gates has avoided public partisanship by sending the majority of his donations to charities and issue causes like climate change.
He has not publicly endorsed Harris.
In response to a version of the story published by the New York Times, Mr. Gates did not confirm or deny the donation.
He said, “I support candidates that demonstrate a commitment to improving healthcare, reducing poverty, and combating climate change in the U.S. “I’ve worked with political leaders from all sides of the spectrum for many years, but this election has a unique significance to Americans and vulnerable people in the world.”
The news of Mr. Gates’ dark-money gift came only days after several media outlets reported that Mr. Musk poured at least 75 million dollars into a pro Trump super PAC.
The political press described such spending by Mr. Gates as unusual, even though it was a label that had been applied to him for years.
Business Insider, as an example, says in its headline: “Elon Musk is exercising his wealth and political influence unlike any other rich man before him.”
