Influencer Andrew Tate released from house arrest while he awaits human trafficking and rape trial
Andrew Tate’s spokesperson confirmed that he won a Friday appeal to be released from his house arrest. Tate is the divisive online influencer in Romania who has been charged with rape and human trafficking, as well as forming a criminal group to exploit women sexually.
Tate will not be allowed to leave the United States. Mateea Petroscu, his spokesperson, stated that he will also not be able to be in close proximity with the other defendants or witnesses, nor any of those alleged victims, and their families.
Petrescu stated that “this positive result gives us confidence in the future.”
The Bucharest Court of Appeal’s decision comes after prosecutors indicted Tate, 36, along with Tristan, his brother, and two Romanian woman in the same case in June. The four individuals were all arrested near Bucharest in late December and deny the accusations.
According to the court’s ruling, all four defendants are subject to geographic restrictions that limit them to the territory of Bucharest Municipality or the nearby Ilfov County. This is unless they receive prior approval from a Judge.
Andrew Tate, who lives in a large house near Bucharest, told the media on Friday that “we’ve been innocent from the start.”
He said: “In January, when I was put in jail, the media told the world that I was terrible, that I hurt others and made a lot money through criminal enterprises.” “And here we are seven or eight months later, and I haven’t seen a victim on the news.”
“I have seen many people standing up for me. I have seen many people defend me. I’ve never seen anyone stand up and tell me that I hurt them,” said the man.
The court reading states that if the defendants do not comply with their obligations under the law, they may be placed on house arrest or prevented from leaving the home.
The Tate brothers are dual citizens of the U.K., and U.S., and they challenged a July 18 court decision that kept them under house-arrest while their criminal case continues. After three months of being held in a police facility, the Tate brothers were granted an appeal to move to house arrest in late March.
In June, the Romanian anti-organized crime agency DIICOT requested that the judges extend the measure of house arrest after the agency had filed its criminal investigations.
Andrew Tate has claimed repeatedly that the prosecutors do not have any evidence against him, and that a political conspiracy is being used to silence him.
DIICOT claims that in 2021, the four defendants created a criminal group to “commit human trafficking crimes” in Romania as well as the United States and Britain.
DIICOT reported that seven female victims were lured to Romania under false pretenses, including love, and then sexually exploited by the gang. According to the agency, one defendant is accused by raping a female twice in March 2022. Prosecutors said that the women were controlled by “intimidation and constant surveillance”, as well as claims of debt.
Andrew Tate had been banned from a number of prominent social media sites for his hate speech and misogynistic remarks, which included that women should be held responsible for sexual assault.
Tate is also being sued by several women in Britain who claim to have been sexually abused.
During their investigation, prosecutors ordered the confiscation the assets of the Tate Brothers, including 15 luxury vehicles, luxury watches, and approximately $3 million in cryptocurrency.
