Saudi Arabia intercepted Houthi missile headed toward Israel — report

The Wall Street Journal reports that Saudi Arabia intercepted a cruise missile fired by Iran-backed Houthi Rebels last week toward Israel.

Saudi Arabia’s involvement in missile defense was unknown until now. Saudi Arabia’s Patriot Missile Defense system is provided by the US.

The US said that the missiles are likely to be heading toward Israel.

Pentagon spokesperson Pat Ryder said the US does not have any information that Iran has “explicitly” ordered the recent missile strikes by its proxies. However, a senior Defense Department officer briefing journalists separately says Washington holds Tehran accountable.

The official said that “when you see the increase in activity and attacks of many of these groups, there are Iranian fingerprints on it.”
