Gov. Sarah Huckabee Sanders bans ‘Latinx’ from Arkansas government documents

Arkansas Republican Governor. Sarah Huckabee Sanders will issue an executive order prohibiting the use of “Latinx” in government documents.

Sanders was sworn into office as Arkansas’ first female governor on Tuesday. She cited a Pew Research poll showing that only 3% of American Latinos or Hispanics use the term “Latinx” to describe themselves.

Sanders’ executive order says that “ethnically insensitive or pejorative language” has no place on official government documents. “The government is responsible for respecting its citizens and using ethnically appropriate language when referring to minorities.

Some politicians and progressive groups have promoted the term Latinx in recent years as a gender neutral alternative to Latina and Latino, which are Spanish words.

Sanders made it clear in his executive order that Madrid’s Real Academia Espanola (an institution that provides linguistic guidance for Spanish) officially disapproves of the use “x” to replace the “o” or “a” in order to identify gender in Spanish.

The executive order states that one cannot remove the gender of Spanish or other romance languages any more than one can remove vowels or verbs from English. “The Governor’s administration has declared that it is against the governor’s policy to use culturally sensitive words in official state government business.

Sanders is now serving in the same position as her father Mike Huckabee who was governor of Arkansas between 1996 and 2007. At 40 years of age, she is the youngest governor in America.

Sanders is expected to sign another executive order banning TikTok from state devices and government networks. This was first reported by Fox News Digital. This order comes after similar bans by the federal government and more then 20 other states.

Sanders was previously the press secretary of former President Donald Trump in 2019. In an exclusive interview, Sanders told Fox News Digital that education is a key issue for her governorship as she is a mother.

Sanders stated, “I have made it clear that my biggest priority for this session” was a large-scale reform package in education. I live it every day with a fourth-grader as well as a third-grader. It is a great experience to see the effects of education on each child.
