Roosevelt Hotel: NYC’s Central Processing Point for Illegal Alien Families

A couple was stopped at the entrance to The Roosevelt Hotel by a guard. The couple explained that they only wanted drinks at the bar, before the guard informed the pair that the hotel had closed.

Surprised, they ask “When did this happen?”

You can easily make a mistake. The hotel looks open despite the fact that it will close in 2020 due to the COVID-19 Pandemic. The iconic Theodore Roosevelt hotel still has scripted awnings above its entrances. There is a buzz around the doors.

The New York Times reported that after the hotel closed and as a result of the increasing number of illegal immigrants arriving in New York City in May, city officials started directing migrants to the hotel. The Biden administration was still allowing hundreds of thousands of illegal aliens to enter the United States.

The Roosevelt Hotel is now a processing center and homeless shelter for illegal immigrants arriving in New York.

The Daily Signal briefly spoke with illegal aliens from Venezuela, China and Senegal outside a New York hotel on a cold December evening.

The guards at the front door would not or could not tell you how many illegal aliens are staying in the hotel or for how long.

The Daily Signal received an email from the press office of New York City mayor Eric Adams on Wednesday. “There are about 850 rooms in the Roosevelt Hotel that are all occupied at this time by migrant family with children.” It’s approx. 3,000 individuals.”

The Daily Signal reported that a family of five Venezuelans who illegally entered the U.S. told The Daily Signal they had traveled to nine countries before reaching the U.S. The family was not staying at the Roosevelt but both the father and the husband said that they registered their three sons for school since arriving in New York. He expressed his hope to find a job in the city.

Adams, when asked about Washington, D.C.’s constant influx of illegal immigrants, told reporters on Tuesday that he did not see an end to the flow.

Adams stated that up to 4,000 illegal immigrants arrive in the city every week. New York’s population is unlikely to decrease before the end of the year, given the number illegal immigrants who crossed the U.S. Mexico border this week.

U.S. Customs and Border Protection set a record this week, after encountering 27,000 illegal aliens in just two days at the border. This was according to the Washington Examiner’s data.

Anna Giaritelli, Washington Examiner, reported that 14,509 illegal immigrants crossed the border to the U.S. on Monday.

The Examiner reported that an additional 12,242 migrants illegally crossed the southern border on Tuesday.

In the meantime, Congress is currently negotiating a bill on border security. The Republican-led House has passed a border-security bill called HR 2 but the Democrat led Senate has not taken it up.

Senators are negotiating on a bill to secure the border, and to provide aid to Israel and Ukraine. However, lawmakers will not attempt to pass this legislation until next year.
