Machaela (D) Cavanaugh, a Nebraska state senator, exploded in a late-week session after the state ban controversial transgender medical treatments for minors. She shouted, “We need Trans people!”

The bill, which prohibits transgender surgeries and limits the use hormone therapy and puberty blocking agents for anyone younger than 19, was passed by the Nebraska legislature with a vote of 33-15. It was then sent to Governor Jim Pillen (R) to become law.

Cavanaugh repeatedly shouted the same chant, which reportedly annoyed some legislators enough to make them leave the room.

“We nee trans people! We love trans people! “Trans people belong here!” Cavanaugh yelled. “We need people who are trans! We love trans people! Trans people are welcome here! Trans people are needed!
