AOC introduces articles of impeachment against Alito and Thomas
Over the last year, two conservative justices were embroiled in scandals involving “ethics”, corruption and failure to disclose luxurious trips. They also refused to recuse themselves from some Supreme Court cases.
Alexandria Ocasio Cortez, a progressive New York Democratic Rep., introduced articles of impeachment against Supreme Court Justices Clarence Thomas & Samuel Alito on Wednesday.
Over the last year, two conservative justices were embroiled in scandals and allegations of corruption over their failure to disclose luxurious trips and refusal to recuse themselves from Supreme Court cases.
The New Yorker reported that Thomas was also accused of failing to recuse himself in matters relating to Ginny Thomas’s financial and political interest.

The congresswoman stated in a press release that “the unchecked scandal of corruption on the Supreme Court is now a Constitutional Crisis threatening American Democracy at large.” The refusal of Justices Clarence Thomas, Samuel Alito, and others to recuse themselves from matters involving the court, in which they have financial and personal relationships that are well documented, is a grave danger to the American rule of laws, integrity of democracy, and a clear case for which impeachment has been designed.
Thomas is accused of omitting certain luxury trips that he made with his family friend, billionaire Harlan Crow, over the years.
Alito’s ethics scandal revolves around his failure to disqualify himself from cases relating to Donald Trump and January 6, after controversial pro Trump flags were seen outside two of Alito’s homes.
Ocasio Cortez stated that “their refusal to recuse themselves from specific cases and matters before the court where their benefactors or spouses are involved represents nothing less than constitutional crisis.” “Given that the court has demonstrated its inability to maintain its own legitimate conduct it is incumbent on Congress to contain the danger this poses to our democratic system and the hundreds of million Americans who are harmed by corruption within the court.
She added that “Congress is under a moral, legal and democratic obligation to impeach” a president.
Only one other Supreme Court Justice has ever been impeached. Samuel Chase, who refused to dismiss biased jury members in 1804 was impeached. He was acquitted later by the Senate.
