House Votes to Formalize Impeachment Inquiry into Joe Biden

On Wednesday, the House of Representatives voted 221 to 212 to formally open an impeachment investigation into President Joe Biden.

According to House Speaker Mike Johnson, (R-LA), the newly adopted status will allow House investigators enforce subpoenas as well as gather evidence to determine whether or not the president has been compromised and “traded his official acts for dollars from abroad.”

Republicans unanimously adopted the resolution. Ken Buck (R, CO), who was critical of Republicans’ focus on impeachment and had indicated earlier that he would vote against the resolution, surprised his Republican colleagues by voting to formalize the investigation.

The Democrats voted as a bloc to vote against the adoption of the resolution.

The vote was an important test for the House Republicans. They only have a small majority, which will continue to shrink this month following Rep. Kevin McCarthy (R-CA’s) resignation announcement. Rep. Bill Johnson, R-FL, is expected to depart in the coming year for a post at a university.

Speaker McCarthy launched an “impeachment investigation” against the President on September 12. However, lawmakers didn’t vote to approve this measure until Wednesday.

Semafor was told by Democrat Rep. Dean Phillips, D-MN, that he did not see any evidence. “But, yes, if your son or brother is doing something clearly unethical, and worse, illegal, then the country will pay attention.”

A Democrat strategist, who worked for Clinton’s 2016 presidential campaign, told The Messenger that the chaos involving Hunter Biden gave him a “pit in my stomach”. This Hunter story could ruin Biden’s career.

Hunter Biden, who had been subpoenaed to give a closed-door testimony on Wednesday, did not appear at a Capitol press conference. House investigators will focus on Hunter’s business deals and his father’s alleged involvement and knowledge.

After Hunter failed to appear, House Oversight Committee chair James Comer (R – KY) and Judiciary Committee chair Jim Jordan (R – OH) began contempt proceedings.

Recent polling has shown that Americans are very skeptical about Hunter and Joe Biden.

In November 2022, House investigators began an investigation into the Biden family. The investigation revealed that Joe Biden had received money from James Biden and Hunter Biden. The report also revealed that nine other Biden family members, including Joe Biden’s two grandchildren, received payments through the foreign business ventures of the Biden family.
