Special Counsel Jack Smith to Resign Before Trump Takes Office

The New York Times, citing reliable sources, reported that Special Counsel Jack Smith will step down with the rest of his team prior to Donald Trump taking office.

Smith filed two cases against Trump. One involved classified documents Trump had kept after leaving the office, and the second concerned his attempts to reverse his loss in the 2020 elections. In July, a federal judge in Florida dismissed the case. Justice Department now evaluates how to close Smith’s case.

Trump, who denied the charges in both cases last month, said he would dismiss Smith “within two seconds” after he took office.

The Justice Department didn’t immediately respond to an outside of regular business hours request for comment.

I want gov’t to work for the people, so I joined the DOGE Caucus. Now that Deep State, Establishment & Liberal spenders have a target on me. Fortunately, I’ve got allies like Elon Musk and Vivek Ramaswamy working with me in this mission. This is LTGen Jack Bergman. Please join me in the fight to make gov’t accountable to the citizens..

Smith’s goal, according to the report, is to ensure that no significant part of his work is left unfinished.
