Joe Manchin Asks Donors To Pump $100 Million Into His Daughter’s Dark Money Group

The Wall Street Journal reported that West Virginia Democratic Senator Joe Manchin is soliciting donations for a nonprofit organization founded by his daughter Heather in a $100 million campaign to promote moderate candidates.

Manchin has not yet decided whether he wants to run as a third party candidate for president in 2024 or for reelection as governor in the solidly red state. Heather Manchin, along with her father, registered Americans Together in July. The nonprofit will not be required to disclose its donors. They are pitching this expensive project to reduce spending, shrink the debt, bolster American independence and strengthen border security, among other things, according to WSJ.

Heather Manchin, speaking to the WSJ, said: “We both agree that the system is broken and in serious trouble.” “We’ve been thinking about how to bring people closer together.”

Heather Manchin is the former CEO of the pharmaceutical company Mylan. She told the WSJ she hoped the nonprofit could give “the politically homeless a voice” as Republicans and Democrats represent the extreme ends of both parties. She insisted that the project was not connected to her father’s political ambitions.

The memo sent to potential contributors states that a minimum of $100m is needed “to change the narrative in the country and gain support from those who are willing to put policy and country above party and politics”, according to the WSJ.

According to the WSJ, billionaire Ken Langone is one of those donors Manchin and daughter are courting. Langone told the WSJ that he spoke to the senator and he already supports the project.

The overarching theme is to get a bit, give little bit and come together. He is a good public servant. He’s a good man. Langone said, “It’s apple pies to me.”

Manchin admitted recently that he is “thinking serious” about becoming an independent. He will face a formidable Republican opponent in the form of Gov. Polls indicate that he would lose to either Rep. Alex Mooney or Jim Justice.

Democrats are growing increasingly worried that Manchin’s possible third-party run as a candidate for No Labels, a centrist organization, could give the White House and Senate to Republicans. They believe that such a ticket will siphon more votes away from President Joe Biden rather than the GOP nominee. No Labels says it will run a unity ticket in 2024 only if Donald Trump wins the Republican nomination.

Heather Manchin was unable to reach Manchin, who did not respond immediately to a comment request from the Daily Caller News Foundation.
