Josh Hawley says ‘accountability’ is next after Biden signs COVID declassification bill

After President Biden signed legislation that directs the federal government’s declassification of intelligence reports, Americans might finally be able to see what the government knew about COVID-19’s origins. The pandemic claimed more than 1.1 million lives in the U.S.

According to Senator Josh Hawley’s next step, it is to hold federal bureaucrats responsible.

Today, President Biden signed my bill to declassify everything the government knows about Covid origins. Let the people see it for themselves,” Hawley (Republican from Missouri) wrote on Twitter.

He said, “Huge victory for transparency. It is now time to hold ourselves accountable.

The Republican is one of many who are calling on Congress to share information about what the federal government knew at end-2019 and early-2020, when the coronavirus began rapidly spreading across the United States.

The COVID-19 Origin Act of 2023, which was recently signed, will allow the Office of the Director of National Intelligence (ODNI) to declassify intelligence related China’s Wuhan Institute of Virology. Experts believe that this is where the pandemic began.

President Biden signed Monday’s legislation, stating that his administration would share as much as possible without compromising national safety.

Biden stated in a statement that his Administration would continue to review classified information relating COVID-19’s origins. This includes potential links to Wuhan Institute of Virology. My Administration will share and declassify as much information as is necessary to implement this legislation in accordance with my constitutional authority to prevent the disclosure of information that could harm national security.

This legislation, and any subsequent actions by Hawley or other people, was passed more than three years ago after the COVID-19 pandemic began.

Rep. Mike Gallagher is also Chairman of the House Select Committee on China. He noted that much information about the origins of the House Select Committee on China is still not public.

“It’s been three year since COVID-19 ravaged our lives and we still have basic questions about its origins. He previously stated that this was unacceptable to Fox News Digital.

Gallagher said: “The question of when this pandemic started is the most important in the world. We should not waste precious time waiting for China’s Communist Party to suddenly cooperate and allow access to the Wuhan Institute of Virology.”
