According to public records, the doctor who cleared John Fetterman to “full duty” in public office and reported that his health was improving after suffering a stroke in May donated more than $1300 to his campaign.

Dr. Clifford Chen at the University of Pittsburgh Medical Center has been monitoring Fetterman’s recovery. He released a Wednesday medical report that showed Fetterman “is recovering well” from his stroke. Republicans have used Fetterman’s stroke as an attack line, arguing it could affect his ability to fulfill his duties as senator.

“Overall, the Lieutenant. The report said that Governor is doing well after his stroke and that his health has improved. He spoke clearly and without cognitive impairments. He spoke normally and continued to show symptoms of auditory processing disorder, which can be mistaken for hearing difficulties. His hearing is normal and he can still hear music.

According to the Federal Election Commission records, Chen contributed $1,330 to Fetterman’s campaign between June 17, 2021 and July 28, 2022. According to records from the Federal Election Commission, Chen has also donated $1,330 to Fetterman’s campaign, including to Sen. Mark Kelly (D–AZ), Sen. Raphael Warnock, Sen. Jon Ossoff, and Val Demings (D–GA), who is running for Senate.

Chen donated $2,945 total to Democratic candidates and committees in the past year.

The Fetterman campaign, however, has denied any connection between the medical report & the financial donations.

A spokesperson for John’s campaign said to the Washington Examiner that “This isn’t about politics — It’s an independent and detailed medical report written based on John’s latest office visit from last Week.” “Anyone bastardly attacking John’s doctor, or questioning the integrity of the University of Pittsburgh Health Center system are grasping at straws. This is the issue on which Dr. Oz staked his entire campaign. Yesterday morning, the Oz campaign admitted that John is in good health.

Fetterman has lost a small amount of ground to Dr. Mehmet O in Pennsylvania, despite once having a lead of double digits over him. Because the winner of the race to replace retiring Senator Pat Toomey (R.-PA), is likely to determine which party takes control of Congress, it has been one of the most prominent Senate races in the midterm cycle.
