Former Pakistan PM Imran Khan reportedly shot and wounded

On Thursday, Imran Khan, Pakistan’s former Prime minister was reported to have been shot and injured during a protest march.

Mohammad Atif Khan (a senior politician and close aide to Khan) told NBC News that he was shot in the leg and was taken to a local hospital. He said that the former leader of Pakistan is now “out of danger”.

Kahn led a protest march through Wazirabad in the country’s eastern region as part of a week-long tour to drum up support for the overthrow of the current government.

Khan, a cricket legend who was elected Pakistan’s Prime Minister in 2018, was thrown out of power by opposition lawmakers in April. They had accused Khan of corruption and taking unconstitutional acts, which were supported by the Supreme Court.

The October ruling by Pakistan’s election committee barring Khan from holding the office again sparked outrage among Khan’s many supporters.

Khan is a well-known figure in Pakistan and South Asia. He is best known for his role in leading Pakistan to its athletic glory in the 1980s, and 1990s with the national cricket team campaign. Later, he moved to politics and founded the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf in 1996.

Khan’s political career was marred by losses. His party, which ran on a populist platform in Pakistan, won the most seats at the National Assembly in 2018. He also led the governing coalition in his role as prime minister.
