Tlaib erects Palestinian flag in Capitol Hill office, accuses Israel of ‘apartheid’

Democratic Congresswoman Rashida Tlaib, a Democratic Congresswoman, has doubled her claim that Israel was an “apartheid state” and suggested that Jerusalem was trying eliminate Palestinians.

Tlaib tweeted a photo of herself standing next a Palestinian flag she had placed in her Capitol Hill office in Washington, D.C.

“While the Apartheid government may have banned Palestinians from flying their flag, we can still fly it at my office. I am proud to be a Palestinian American, and I want the Palestinian people know that not all Americans support apartheid. Tlaib wrote that no one can erase our existence.”

This post was apparently a response to Itamar Bengvir, Israeli National Security Minister,’s crackdown against the promotion and celebration of terrorist acts by Arab Israelis.

This month, Ben-Gvir directed police to enforce an interdiction on the display of Palestinian flags in solidarity against terrorist groups.

He stated, “We will fight terrorists and encourage terrorism with all of our might.”

This decision was made in the aftermath of Karim Younis’ homecoming ceremony in the Arab village ‘Ara. He had been released from prison following a 40-year sentence. Younis, along with his cousin, was convicted in 1983 of killing Cpl. Israel Defense Forces. Avraham Bromberg.

Karim was released after visiting his mother’s grave and declaring, “I am willing to sacrifice another 40-years for the freedom of our country.” I am glad that prisoners today are united against the barbarism of the occupation.

P.L.O. decorations were used to decorate the compound where the homecoming took place. Flags were carried by Younis as well.

Tlaib claims that flying the P.L.O. flag in public is a criminal offense. Flag flying in public is not a crime in Israel, despite Tlaib’s claim. Police have the power to remove them if they are held in solidarity or sympathy with a terrorist group or if it is likely that the flag will cause a disturbance in the public.

Tlaib said in September that she doesn’t see how a two state solution to the Israeli-Palestinian war can work. Tlaib also claimed that Israel is an “apartheid” country and that U.S. policies toward it need to change.

Tlaib stated that she disagrees with J Street’s left-wing lobby J Street, stating that it “wants to see a two-state solution.” However, I have always maintained that Israel and Palestine will decide their fates. They are moving more towards a single-state [solution].

In May, Tlaib introduced a resolution calling on the U.S. to recognize the Palestinian nakba. This term is commonly used by Palestinians to describe the establishment of Israel.

The nakba has been well documented and is still being played out today. She said that it is unacceptable to deny the humanity of Palestinians when people refuse to recognize war crimes committed in apartheid Israel and other human-rights violations.
