New Hampshire Senate race: Maggie Hassan, Don Bolduc debate abortion, inflation, energy – recap

After the Republican Don Bolduc and Maggie Hassan, a Democratic Senator from New Hampshire, debated Wednesday night. They were asked questions about abortion, inflation, and immigration.

Bolduc, the GOP challenger, and incumbent Hassan debated for less than a week before Election Day.

Bolduc’s endorsement was his first since the debate began. Trump called Bolduc a “strong, proud, ‘Election Denier’, which was a major reason he won the nomination.”

Hassan’s term will be decided by the outcome of the competitive Senate race. The Senate is split 50-50 at the moment, with Vice President Kamala Harris giving Democrats tie-breaking votes.

Hassan highlights his record as a former senator and governor

Hassan stated that it was an honor to be New Hampshire senator and governor. She stated that she is running for reelection in order to bring people together to solve problems and said there is more work to be done to lower costs.

Hassan claimed that her opponent wants to impose a “extreme agenda.”

She said, “He’s not accountable to you.” “I will always listen and work for New Hampshire.

Bolduc’s closing statement praises outsider status

Bolduc’s closing remarks blamed President Joe Biden and Hassan for the nation’s problems. According to the retired general, professional politicians are the greatest problem. The Republican candidate stated that “this is a sad state we are in.”

Hassan expressed concern about political rhetoric

Hassan was asked how much responsibility politicians should take to prevent violence in politics. He said that democracy is about having a system for resolving disputes which isn’t violent.

She stated, “It is essential that we tone it down the rhetoric.”

She stressed that she was concerned by the rhetoric she heard, specifically in reference to the Jan.6 Committee investigating the attack against the Capitol.

Bolduc: I have done 76 town halls

Bolduc repeated his claim that he wouldn’t vote to raise taxes and said that he had reaffirmed his promise during 76 town halls held in New Hampshire.

Bolduc claims attack on Paul Pelosi is “sign of the times”

After offering his sympathy, Bolduc stated that the attack on Paul Pelosi (the husband of Democratic House Speaker Nancy Pelosi) was “a sign of times”.

Bolduc stated that it was a sign of political problems and that increasing political violence is a result of polarization.

Bolduc: “I will not raise taxes. Period.”

Bolduc denied that he supported a Fair Tax Act. It is a sales tax on the purchase of new goods or services.

When asked about his past records, he replied that he would support the legislation. “… It is a lie.”

Bolduc stated that he had signed a promise not to increase taxes and that he would not raise taxes “permanently.”

Bolduc was accused by Hassan of supporting a fair and equitable tax. He stated that this would raise your costs for rent, healthcare, and food.

Hassan says cutting U.S. ‘demand’ can help combat drug trafficking

Hassan stated that the United States is doing everything it can to stop drug flows into the country, especially fentanyl.

She said that part of the problem was American “demand” for drug; cutting this can help the government fight drug cartels.

Bolduc attacks again the border policy on fentanyl, opioid crisis and fentanyl

Bolduc again criticized Biden, Hassan for their border policies and use of fentanyl in America.

Bolduc stated that “we don’t have secure border because we have a terrible migration policy.” He called for more investment and said that Hassan had “hurt our borders.”

Bolduc and Hassan discuss bipartisanship

Bolduc stated that Hassan didn’t answer the question about whether the country should expand its Supreme Court. He dodged the question.

“She is not bipartisan.” He said that she was not. “She gave you a typical answer to a political question.”

Hassan replied that she was proud to be named the most bipartisan senator of the country by the independent Lugar Center, and proud of her track record of delivering bipartisan results.

Bolduc stated that he didn’t know how she got the award.

Hassan is against the addition of justices to Supreme Court (and attacks Bolduc’s views on abortion).

Hassan stated that she was against increasing the number justices on the Supreme Court. She said it would only “politicize” her bench.

Bolduc was also attacked by her again, this time using the question. The high court had already struck down Bolduc earlier in the year.

Bolduc states that Supreme Court character integrity is important to him

Bolduc stated that he would assess nominees for the Supreme Court based on their “character integrity.”

Bolduc stated that the nomination process is “too politicized.”

Bolduc states that he doesn’t support the CHIPS Act

Bolduc stated that he wouldn’t have voted against the CHIPS Act, which Bolduc called “essentially a bailout.”

He stated that it did not create solutions and that the United States does not need to make components. “We need to be making everything.”

Bolduc stated that the United States needs to be a manufacturing hub.

Hassan defends Semi-conductor Program that is under attack

Hassan supported the federal law regarding semi-conductor manufacturing and said it would create jobs and unclog the global supply chains.

Bolduc and other critics called the law a bailout of the semi-conductor sector and its lobbyists.
