The Congressional Hispanic Caucus (CHC), a group of Democrats, has blocked a new Latina Republican lawmaker’s entry to the group.

Mayra Flores won a long-held Democratic House seat at the U.S.–Mexico border. However, she claimed that the CHC refused her admission because of her party affiliation.

Flores stated that she was the first Mexican-born American Congresswoman and believed the Hispanic Caucus would openly work together. “This denial again proves a bias toward conservative Latinas who don’t fit their narratives or ideologies.”

The CHC is the largest group of Congress members who are Hispanic or Latino. It is composed of approximately 40 members from the Senate and House.

CHC has refuted its decision, stating that the organization is only for Democrats and Flores’ “extreme” views are at odds with its mission.

A spokesperson for the caucus stated that the CHC was now available for Democratic Members, per our bylaws. “Rep. “Rep.

Flores responded, “The party that promotes inclusion does it again.” On Wednesday, the freshman congresswoman told Fox News Channel’s Laura Ingraham that she would still be a voice for the Hispanic community, despite her snub.

They are not necessary for me. They are not needed by the Hispanic community. We are the true voice. Flores stated that we are the voice for the Hispanic community during an appearance on Ingraham Angle. We stand for the values we were taught with God, Family, and hard work. This is what we stand for.

The CHC was a bipartisan group that worked until 2003 when it split over U.S. policies toward Cuba. The Congressional Hispanic Conference was created by the five GOP members of the caucus.

The two groups have been split by parties since then. However, the CHC has been vocaler due to its larger membership. Only nine members make up the GOP-run Congressional Hispanic Conference.

In recent years, Republicans have attempted to break the strict Democrat-only rule because of the CHC’s greater voice. 2017: GOP Rep. Carlos Curbello from Florida was denied admission due to his partisanship.

House Republicans were quick to criticize CHC after such decisions and again after Flores was rejected.

“Last I checked, my race was Black and Mayra is Latina. These Democrats care more for the ‘R” than our race,” stated Rep. Byron Donalds of Florida, a Republican who was denied entry to the Congressional Black Caucus because of his party affiliation.
