Jordan subpoenas Big Tech CEOs for records on ‘collusion’ with Biden admin to ‘suppress free speech’

Jim Jordan, Chairman of the House Judiciary Committee, subpoenaed Google, Amazon and Facebook chief executives for documents related to the government’s alleged collusion with Big Tech companies to suppress free speech.

Jordan, R.Ohio, subpoenaed Alphabet CEO Sundar Paichai, Apple CEO Tim Cook and Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg to turn over records before March 23.

Jordan’s office stated that “The House Judiciary Committee tried repeatedly to engage with five companies since December last year.” “Unfortunately, the companies did not respond to our requests.”

Jordan’s office stated that Congress has an important role to protect and advance fundamental free speech principles. It also examines how private actors cooperate with the government in suppressing First Amendment-protected expression. “These subpoenas represent the first step towards holding Big Tech responsible.”

Fox News Digital was informed by a Microsoft spokesperson that they had begun producing documents and are currently engaged with the Committee. They also stated that they were committed to working in good-faith.

Fox News Digital was informed by a spokesperson for Meta that they have also “already started producing documents in response the committee’s request and will continue doing so moving forward.”

Jordan demanded documents and communications from executives in relation to Big Tech censorship in December before Republicans won the majority of the House of Representatives.

Jordan and the Republicans of the House Judiciary Committee stated at the time that they had evidence Big Tech Companies were “colluding” with the Biden Administration to suppress free speech online.

Jordan stated in December that “Big Tech is out for conservatives and is increasingly willing, by complying to the Biden administration’s directives that suppress free speech online,” This approach is a violation of fundamental American principles. It allows powerful government agents to silence political opponents and suppress opposing views.

Jordan stated that the treatment of certain speakers and content by the companies could be due to government directives or guidelines designed to suppress dissenting opinions. He demanded information on “the nature, extent and scope of your companies’ collusion” with the Biden administration.

Jordan demanded records and documents of communications between employees and contractors of companies and anyone associated with the executive branch. This was from January 2020 to the present. The communication concerns moderation, deletion, or reducing the distribution of certain content.

Jordan demanded that companies list any third-party companies, groups or individuals with whom they had worked as they made decisions and policies regarding content moderation or suppression.

After Republicans have long raised the alarm about Big Tech’s censorship of conservatives and bias towards them, this investigation is necessary.

Jordan’s December letters came just after Twitter CEO Elon Musk published the “Twitter Files,” in which he detailed the suppression by the social media platform of the Hunter Biden laptop story. This was before the 2020 election.
